Legislation that fiberglass mesh cloth would have allowed terminally ill patients to legally end their lives in California stalled Tuesday amid strong opposition from religious groups, who claim that allowing doctors to prescribe life-ending prescription medication is assisted suicide and is the opposite of God’s will.
This bill was backed by Christy O’Donnell, a California lawyer and mother with terminal cancer of the lung — who was simply holding out hope that this bill could allow her the ability to die on her own terms without legal repercussions on her behalf doctor.
The authors on the right-to-die bill didn't present the legislation on the Assembly Health Committee as scheduled because doing so did not have sufficient votes to succeed, reports the Associated Press. The panel includes multiple Democratic lawmakers from heavily Catholic districts inside the Chicago area, the place that the archdiocese actively opposed the legislation.
This holdup means the bill may still pass but cannot fulfill the deadline to feed committees in 2010, although some lawmakers remain uncomfortable using the bill, in line with Christian Burkin, a spokesman for Assemblywoman Susan Eggman of Stockton, a sponsor with the bill.

“I will be literally overwhelmed with sadness to the number of people and their loved ones which will must suffer in the interim,” says O’Donnell. “For me that’s an extremely sad, sad thing.”
O’Donnell’s last chance to create the directly to die will happen later this month on July 24, her 47th birthday.
O’Donnell, two other patients with terminal cancer, as well as a hospice doctor filed a suit asking the condition of California to instantly allow her doctor to prescribe life-ending medication without prosecution.

However, her reps later issued a statement to the people, blaming a Deen employee with the post.
