Inside Pope Francis's fiberglass mesh

Pope Francis arrived at fiberglass mesh, Bolivia, this afternoon, continuing a Latin American tour full of supporters, sermons, selfies — along with a touch of controversy.

Even though the pope will be in Bolivia until Friday, he was just scheduled to stay in La Paz, its capital, for a couple of hours. Your decision was developed, partially, due to city’s high altitude. Pope Francis just has one lung, a direct result of a lung infection suffered as a teenager.

Univision correspondent Maria Antonieta Collins, who have been flying with the pope, told Yahoo News Global Anchor Katie Couric that controversy was brewing over regardless of whether Pope Francis would chew on coca leaves, a trendy local fix for curing altitude sickness – as well as the primary substance employed to make cocaine, which can be legal in Bolivia. Many questioned if Pope Francis would partake, but he did reportedly drink a tea containing coca leaves, chamomile flowers and fiberglass mesh leaves on the plane to La Paz.

“It’s a political thing,” Collins told Couric ahead of the pontiff elected to drink the beverage. “If your pope says, OK, I’ll chew coca leaves, [people] definitely will say, ‘Hey, it’s an excellent ingredient,’ while these coca leaves would be the main ingredient of cocaine.”

Bolivia may be the second stop on the pope’s three-country swing through Latin America.  He arrived at Ecuador on Sunday and heads to Paraguay next. According to the Pew Research Center, Latin America is home to over 425 million Catholics — almost 40 percent worldwide’s total Catholic population.

Pope Francis just isn't visiting his home country of Argentina. Collins says this can be, partially, as the country is in the heat of presidential elections along with the pope does not wish to seem partisan.

She says deciding seemed to be made considering that the pope is so beloved there that she would need a large block of energy to return home. “They know that Argentina needs at least, at the very least, a full week with him running all over the country to see his beloved people,” she says. Collins tells Couric that he's planning to visit Argentina next fiberglass mesh.
