“You took something really precious from me. Let me never speak with her again,” the daughter of 70-year-old Ethel Lance, among nine people killed in Wednesday's massacre, said. “But I forgive you and have absolutely mercy with your soul. You hurt me. You hurt a number of people. But God forgives you. I forgive you.”

Felecia Sanders, mother of the youngest victim, 26-year-old Tywanza Sanders, also spoke.
“Every fiber within my body hurts,” Sanders said, “and i also will never be the identical.”
Roof is accused of performance the killings on a fiberglass mesh Bible study session inside Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church Wednesday night in what investigators are treating being a hate crime.

Sanders survived the shooting by playing dead.
“We welcomed you Wednesday night in this Bible study with open arms. You've killed one of the most beautifulest people who I'm sure,” she said in court. “As we said within the Bible study, we enjoyed you, but may God have mercy you.”
Flanked by two officers in flak jackets, Roof appeared in the court by using a closed-circuit video link coming from a holding cell within the Charleston County jail. The 21-year-old was charged Friday with nine counts of murder then one firearms charge.
Roof answered a few pre-determined questions through the judge, confirming his address, age and that he just isn't employed. He looked down as being the loved ones spoke, but did not show emotion.
“I forgive you, and my family forgives you,” Anthony Thompson, the husband of 59-year-old Myra Thompson, said. “But we would like you take this opportunity to repent. Alter your ways.”

“Although my grandfather and the other victims died as a result of hate, this really is proof, everyone’s plea on your soul is proof they lived infatuated and their legacies will sleep in love,” the grandson of 74-year-old Daniel Simmons said. “So hate won't win.”
“A hateful person stumbled on this community by incorporating crazy idea he’d have the capacity to divide, but all he did was unite us to make us love the other person much more,” Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. told the Associated Press.
Forgiving Roof, though, hasn’t been easy for everyone.
“To me, I'm a be employed in progress,” admitted a member of family of 49-year-old Depayne Middleton Doctor. “My business is very angry, [but] we're the family unit that love built. We've got no room for hate, i really need to forgive.”
On Friday evening, Roof's family expressed their "deepest sympathies and condolences to groups of the victims" via a written statement.
"Words cannot express our shock, grief, and disbelief about what happened that night. I am devastated and saddened in what occurred," the statement said.
"Just about everyone has been touched through the moving words from your victims’fiberglass mesh families offering God’s forgiveness and love when confronted with such horrible suffering."
